Brandstater to make NFL debut Monday Night at Seattle?

With starting quarterback Sam Bradford hobbled by an ankle injury, and backup quarterback A.J. Feeley suffering a fractured thumb in Sunday’s 26-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the St. Louis Rams may have no choice but to start Tom Brandstater at quarterback next Monday night in Seattle.

“Well, he would have to be the guy,” Spagnuolo said Monday according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “The good thing is, we had him here a good month period, so the system’s not new to him. Last week he was in there, really with the practice squad reps, so he’s kind of got the juices flowing again. But he’d be the guy we’d have to go with, yeah.”

A sixth-round pick (174th overall) out of Fresno State by the Denver Broncos, Brandstater has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Spagnuolo on Bradford: “When we get to Wednesday we’ll decide just how much exertion we want to put on the ankle,” Spagnuolo said. “Because the less you put on it, the better off he is when you get down to a game-type decision. So we’ll probably tread lightly Wednesday; the same on Thursday. I don’t know. We’ll see how Sam feels.”
