The Rams beat the SF 49ers 27-6 and move above .500 for the season for the first times since 2006. Even sweeter is accomplishing it against arch rival SF 49ers. At the half I said if the Rams can maintain the winning formula of the first half (dominating defense and a few explosive offensive plays) then positive results would result. And that’s exactly what happened. The Rams defensive line (with a little help from the linebacking core) plied constant pressure on Niners QB Kaepernick. Kaepernick was sacked 3 times during the game which doesn’t even begin to describe the defensive assault he faced today. Of course the Niners were often their own worse enemies with an excessive number of untimely penalties and poor execution. Rams receiver Tavon Austin provided the second’s half explosive play when he broke free on a short pass to the left for a 66 yard pick up and TD. And against this very bad 49er team it was enough.
Take it all in Rams fans because this was a very big win for RamsNation.
Now, let’s not get too full of ourselves. Next week we play a 5-2 and surging Minnesota Vikings on their turf. Today we scored 27 points which is a little deceiving regarding the health of our offense. In the first 20 minutes of the game our offense was a complete no show. In the entire game we were 1 for 12 on third down conversions. It was good enough to beat the Niners, but it will not be enough to beat the Vikings. Three explosive plays accounted for most of our points today and that is a very high risk proposition against a much better Vikings squad. The Rams have to solve their 3rd down conversion problem and we have got to start out strong from the opening whistle. Adrian Peterson and company will eat us alive if we give them a free 20 minutes.
But today… it is all good Rams fans!!! It’s time to celebrate! Go Rams!!!
