Rams Lose To Cardinals 14-31

Before looking at the play-by-play account of the 2nd quarter I was thinking what a tough break for the Rams.  We led 14-10 going into the 4th quarter.  Then Cards receiver Brown caught a stretched out leaping 48 yard magnificient TD pass.  It was an amazing catch that just couldn’t be defended.  Then a random deflected and intercepted pass gave the Cards 7 points.  Again, not really anything we could do about it (except perhaps catching the pass in the first place).  Right?  And the coup de gras, Davis caughs up the ball for another turnover and Card TD.  Again, just another unmanageable play that went against us.  Poor Rams…

Then I took a look at ESPN’s play-by-play account of the second half.  Here’s my version of it:

DRIVES
(3rd QTR)
Cards 3 and out
Rams 3 and out
Cards a couple of first downs and the Rams Olgetree intercepts
Rams penalty and 3 and out
Cards 1st down and then end of 3rd qtr
(4th QTR)
Cards drive to the Rams 28 yard line, Palmer is sacked (and injured). Team misses FG
Rams 3 and out
Cards drive length of field and score TD on 48 yard pass (amazing catch)
Rams 2nd play Davis throws INT to Peterson
Cards 3 and out
Rams 3rd play of drive Peterson intercepts for pick 6
Rams 1st down and then fumble returned for TD by Cromartie
Rams drive from 20 to Cards 49, turn ball over on downs
Cards kneel down to end game

The poor Rams had almost zero offense in the 2nd half.  Take away the two some what uncontrollable turnovers and the score becomes Rams 14- Cards 17.  In this make believe version of the game all we needed was a single field goal to keep things going into imaginary overtime, but we couldn’t do it.  Let me clarify… in real life we had almost zero offense and never even threatened to  score in the 2nd half of the game.  The poor Rams collapsed once again in the second half.  We fall to 3-6 on the season as we not only lose, but collapse yet again.  Thank you Jeff Fisher and company for at least letting us feel pretty good for the first 3 quarters of the game before getting our hearts ripped out of our chests.
