I have to tell you that up until the last minute of the first half I had some serious doubts about the 2013 Rams. In what should have been a definite Rams TD pass, but ended up as a strip and a turnover, I had my first reservations. On the very next drive Rams corner Finnegan on one on one coverage gives up a long pass reception leading to a Fitzgerald TD catch.
Next the Rams move down the field via a variety of passing and rushing plays. Of course most of those yards were gained as a result of a pass interception call. The Rams land close to the Cards 20 yard line and stall. Looking like Rams of old they settle for a Zuerlein FG bringing the score to Cards 7, Rams 3.
Throughout the second quarter the Rams have no answer for a slew of passes thrown right down the middle of the field. Not that Cards QB Palmer was picking the secondary apart; the middle of the field was just about always wide open. Fortunately, this only resulted in an additional 3 points for the Cards.
With 2 minutes to go in the 1st quarter once again the Rams begin their assault of the field. Skillfully, they move down the field and arrive at the Cards 24 yard line. 1st and 2nd downs get them 5 yards closer to the goal. Neither down was played in a significantly strong or imposing manner. That old sinking feeling started crawling up my gut. It’s 3rd and 5 and it seems like the entire seaon is already on the line. The ball is snapped, Bradford steps back and fires the ball, Jared Cook makes the catch and forces his way into the end zone. Touch Down Rams!!! The score is 10-10 and the Jeff Fisher Rams have showed up. This is 2013 baby.
The 2nd half is coming up. Go 2013 Rams!!!
