Defensive Coordinator Prospect

Rumor has it the Rams are interested in Dick Jauron as a defensive coordinator candidate.  Dick is a real NFL guy.  He was a Pro Bowl safety in 1974 and had a 7 year playing career.  He’s been coaching in the league since 1985.  He’s an on again off again head coach over the last 10 years (Chicago and Buffalo).  He is a defensive specialist who’s been with the Cleveland Browns for the last two seasons (as defensive coordinator).   So far so good.  The problem is that under his leadership the Browns went from 10th in total defense in 2011 to a ranking of 23rd in 2012.

We like old school coaches, but we have to worry about him due to his recent track record.  Good coach with a couple bad years?  Or an old football guy who might be past his prime?  Hard to know.  If I had to vote (based on the limited info found in print) I’d have to vote ‘No’.

What do you think Rams fans?

Cleveland is a tough gig. Even Holmgren and Belicheck hit the wall in Cleveland.
Also, a senior coaching staff can only help our young talent. Fisher set the standard last season with a no BS approach. We’re on the right track now.
    I vote yes.

I say, keep searching. We need someone that’s going to be able to dominate and Intimidate the defenses of other great teams, like the Ravens and Steelers and those great defenses of the past. Whatever happened to the fearsome foursome?
