Way back during the 2012 free agency I was super excited to learn we’d picked up Pro Bowl center Scott Wells from the Packers. A lot of times when you pick up a guy who was a former Pro Bowler you’re picking up a guy who made the Pro Bowl 5 or more years in the past, but Scott Wells made the Pro Bowl in 2011. Wells is a veteran and he did play with the Packers for 8 years, but seems like he should be at his peak. Who trades a center at his peak?
Did the Packers know something we didn’t? During some night time team activity did they slip him a roofy and conduct a secret full body catscan? The Rams seemed brilliant with the signing, but suddenly we hear, “oh, btw, Wells had an offseason knee surgery that he’s recovering from.” He finaly makes it out onto the field. What? Around week 5 or 6? He played a few games and then broke his foot. Time went by and his foot healed up. He comes back in and has problems with the knee again. He did play out the season (and the Rams were better for his participation).
And the latest new? Wells is undergoing another offseason knee surgery (same knee). Holy crap! Oh, but don’t worry. He’ll be ready by ready to play in time for training camp (seems like I’ve heard that before). Makes you kind of go ‘hmmm’. So, did Green Bay know something we didn’t?
