It’s the time of year when we start to evaluate our players performance levels. One of the keys to a good team is its offensive line. So, let’s start with the Rams RT Barry Richardson. To do a good analysis you need to have key stats and some kind of benchmark to compare them against. So, I’ll be comparing Barry against the SF 49ers RT Anthony Davis. Here are key offensive linemen stats according to Pro Football Focus:
|2012 Cummulative Ratings|
|Name||Team||Snaps||Overall||Pass Block||Screen Block||Run Block||Penalty||QB Sk||QB Ht||QB Hu|
These numbers can be a little complex. They are cummulative ratings for all of the 2012 regular season. This rating scale would give a score of zero for each game that is rated at ‘average’. So, Richardson’s .3 Pass Block rating for the year means overall he performed just above average in this category. Davis’ higher overall score shows an accumlation of postive ratings (an accumulation of strong performances).
Anthony Davis was ranked 11th overall in the NFL, while Barry Richardson was 41st. For the Rams to be seasonally competive with the 49ers in 2013, they will need a much improved performance at right tackle.
