The Rams fought until the very end, but it was not quite enough. The score was 13-13 at the 2 minute warning. But about a minute previous the Seahawks had completed a 44 yard pass to the right side of the field to Golden Tate. This brought the ball all the way to the Rams’ 29 yard line and just about in field goal range. The Seahawks rushed for 10 more yards before QB Wilson ran for 15 yards. So with 2 minutes remaining that’s exactly where the game stood. As much of a roller coaster season 2012 has been for the Rams, I have become somewhat accustomed to great defense and goal line stands. I almost expected the Rams to hold Seattle to a field goal, but the Seahawks were not to be denied. There was 1:45 left and Lynch rushed 3 yards to the left for a TD. Six points is added to the scoreboard, but upon further review, the call is reversed as Lynch had stepped out of bounds prior to crossing the goal line. But on the next play QB Wilson runs it in from half a yard out. The score was Rams 13, Seahawks 20.
1:39 left in the game and the Rams take possession of the ball. Bradford passes to TE Kendricks for 15 yards. Jackson runs for 5, but before we know it its 4th and 5 on Seattle’s 35 yard line with 59 seconds left to play. With the game on the line Bradford drops back to pass. Bradford is under a lot of pressure and it looks like everyone is covered down field. Bradford goes through his progressions, but no one is open. Bradford runs for it. Bradford runs out of bounds for 6 and the Rams are still alive. 4 incomplete passes come and go and again its 4th and 10 on the Seahawks 29 yard line. There’s 45 seconds left and a field goal is not going to be enough. No choice but to go for it. Bradford steps back to pass, he fires the ball into the end zone, and the pass is intercepted. I’m not sure if the Rams receiver fell down, but the only player around was a Seahawk. Seattle is able to come out for a single kneel-down to end the game.
I ‘m completely unhappy about the outcome of the game, but I’d have to say the 2nd half of this game was a pleasure to watch. Both teams battled and played well. The Seahawks late game TD was just too much for the Rams to overcome. Losing the game ended the Rams season at 7-8-1. Not a winning season, but compared to last season’s 2-14, this was a very respectable result. The Rams have 2 first round picks in 2013 and since the team ended the season looking relatively healthy, 2013 should to be a great year.
Stick around for the off season Rams fans. We’ll be looking at the 2013 draft, free agency, and everything ‘RamsNation’ relevant under the sun for. For now continue to have a great holiday season and Go Rams!!!
