Jets vs Rams – Game Prediction

Jets vs St. Louis Rams August 14, 2009

Well, as a Rams fan I hate to say that any other team is not very good, but the NY Jets are not very good. The team is also at odds with itself from the Owner to the Head Coach to the QBs to the rest of the team. How does the saying go, “a house divided cannot stand”? Unless the Jets can find some common ground and quick, the Rams are sure to have a victory this Sunday.

Here are some Jets vs Rams stats

QB Ranking Sanchez 25th, Bradford 21st
RB Ranking Greene 18th, Jackson 22nd
WR Rankings Kerley 36th, Amendola (not in top 40)
Team offense Jets 30th, Rams 27th
Team Passing Jets 28th, Rams 22nd
Team Rushing Jets 18th, Rams 14th
Team Rec Jets 30th, Rams 22nd
Team Def Jets 13th, Rams 24th
Team Passing Def Jets 5th, Rams 13th
Team Rushing Def Jets 29th, Rams 16th

Ok, some pretty revealing numbers. For a win it looks like it needs to be a big running day for the Rams. The Rams primary running backs Steven Jackson and Daryl Richardson both had very strong outings against the SF 49ers (who currently have the 6th ranked rushing defense). The Rams need to exploit the Jets rushing defense because statistically NY is very tough on passing. The Rams also need to limit the productivity of Shonn Greene who really hasn’t had a great year (don’t tell the Colts), but can hurt you if he gets rolling.

Passing wise we need to keep the Bradford to Amendola love fest alive. If Amendola can’t get the best of Jets CB Cromartie, then as a positive side effect things could open up down field (for longer passes). Otherwise, we need to get a lot of pressure on Sanchez. He is definitely known for making mistakes when under pressure (he has the most red zone interceptions of any NFL QB). Finally, there is the ‘Any Given Sunday’ thing. The Rams cannot go into this game unprepared. Not preparing when you have a record of 3-5-1 would be completely arrogant which is another game killer (versus division). I think a solid performance (no turnovers, limited penalties, and no brain-farts) gets the Rams a win tomorrow. Final score: Jets 10, Rams 24. Go Rams!!!
