Rams Announce Team Captains

Do you want to know who the leaders of your team are?  It’s easy.  Just ask the other players.  This year’s team (2012) selected Sam Bradford, Steven Jackson, James Laurinaitis, and as special teams captain Brit Miller.  There are no surprises with the first 3 picks, but Brit Miller is a bit of a surprise.  It was big news back in the beginning of the preseason when the Rams signed Pro Bowl FB Ovie Mughelli to the team.  Mughelli had been selected to the Pro Bowl as recently as 2010.  Last year both Mughelli and Miller were taken out by knee injuries.  It would be interesting to know if Brit simply beat Ovie out or if there were some lingering knee issues (Ovie was released by the Rams last Sunday).

Whatever the reasons, Brit has impressed his teammates this year.  Miller was first signed by the Panthers back in 2009 as an undrafted free agent.  He was waived by the Panthers and picked up by the 49ers who switched him from LB to FB.  But that situation didn’t last and in 2010 he was signed by the Rams who placed him on their practice squad.  The Rams had high hopes for him in 2011, but again his season was cut short by the knee injury.  So Miller’s NFL road has been a tough one so far.  Since he really has no stats to rely upon, he must be working hard and being a positive influence.  Here is Brit’s response to being named a team captain:

“It’s an honor but definitely a challenge,” Referencing his co-captains, Miller added, “Those guys are legitimate football players. I’m here because I can do a little bit of everything. It’s something I definitely take a little bit of pride in.”

“I’m not a Pro Bowler on offense, but right now I’m going to produce on special teams. I know that’s expected of me.”  (From Kathleen Nelson, St Louis Post-Dispatch)

We’re hoping that 2012 is a big year for both Brit Miller and the Rams.  Go Rams!!!
