Rams Fans Sigh Anew

By Laurie Brown

After the all-too-familiar embarrassment that was last Sunday – I don’t care how many people poo-poo the score, it was 35 points! Not a field goal, not a touchdown difference but five touchdowns plus a field goal. Whatever. – but this morning comes the news that Sam Bradford is probably going to need surgery on his ankle after the season is over. Wonderful. That’s a cheerful way to start the season. Myself and every defensive player on every team we’re playing this year will be staring down that ankle every play, every game. Poor Sam.

Here’s the thing, Sam was on the sidelines for weeks with his sprained ankle last year and never seemed to be getting any better. During the offseason everybody has been wondering how is Sam’s ankle coming along. Is it better? Then, as soon as training camp started, Sam himself is saying his ankle is still a problem while Jeff Fisher et al keep saying it’s fine. Huh? Mixed messages coming from Rams Park.

We had RG3 in our sights. He could have been a Ram right now. Fans would have been excited and there would have been a buzz about football in St. Louis. Instead, we worry. All this scheming and fancy trades and new “leadership” and this is where we sit, being told it takes time. Three years down the road we’ll have a great team. But three years ago we were told the same thing. I love the Rams but we all deserve more hope than this.

  1. Good article. It would be interesting to know what Sam feels. Is the ankle tight? Is there some pain? Does it just not feel right? We (the Rams) have had some pretty bad luck in recent years. I hope this won’t hurt the team/season.
