2012 Rams – Season Prediction

In the last 25 years, the Rams have had 6 winning seasons shared by 3 coaches (Robinson, Martz, and Vermeil).  It is important to note that in 5 of the 6 years the Rams had winning seasons they jumped out to what I would call a ‘great start’.  I define ‘great start’ as starting the season with at least 3 straight victories.  This happened twice with Mike Martz (started 6-0 in 2000 and 5-0 in 2001), 2 times with John Robinson (4-0 in 1988, and 5-0 in 1989), and once for Dick Vermeil in his Super Bowl winning season (6-0 in 1999).  (John Robinson is the winning-est Rams coach in Rams history; he also coached the Rams for the longest period of time.)

Typically, this is where I’d like to say something like, “this year the Rams are going to have a great start”, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.  I do think it’s possible to have a good start.  In our first 5 games of the regular season I think we can go 3-2:

Week 1 @ Detroit L
Week 2 @ Home vs Wash W
Week 3 @ Chicago L
Week 4 @ Home vs Seattle W
Week 5 @ Home vs Arz W

The Rams have a pretty tough schedule for the remainder of the year.  Here is how I see it playing out:

Week 6 @ Miami W
Week 7 @ Home vs GB L
Week 8 @ Wembly Pats L
Week  9 @ BYE
Week 10 @ SF L
Week 11 @ Home vs Jets W
Week 12 @ Arz W
Week 13 @ Home vs SF L
Week 14 @ Bills L
Week 15 @ Home vs Vikings W
Week 16 @ Tampa W
Week 17 @ Seahawks L

That brings us to the brink of winning at 8-8.  So, it doesn’t look like we’re going to count 2012 in the win column (but it’s not in the losing column either).  In 2013 we have a #1 draft pick and hopefully we’ll be able to use it on an offensive weapon (versus another tackle).  2013 is the year the Rams finally achieve a winning record (and make a playoff appearance).

So my prediction for 2012 is a very optimistic 8-8.  Go Rams!!!
