Dicey weather caused anxiety about whether the opening day of training camp would even happen but the rain stopped, the sun came out and by the time the team took the field you couldn’t even tell it had rained. It was very warm but it wasn’t broiling like St. Louis has been for several weeks.
There was a good turnout, 1600 by the Rams count, and everyone was in a good, albeit reserved, mood. People were watching the workout. Paying attention to the plays. The team looked good, surprisingly cohesive and they seemed pleased coming off the field. Pay attention to #12, Steve Smith.
I saw fans I recognized from other events. All the top fans were there – #1 Rams Fan with the horns and the full uniform, the Elvis Guy, Rampage’s Mother. Autographs were suppose to be for 14 and under but a few players made their way over to sign for the rest of us. Jeff Fisher didn’t acknowledge the fans at all as far as I saw. Kevin Demoff was the real hero today doing a stint in the dunking booth (and getting dunked 15 times, once by his wife) and then mingling with fans afterward and willing to talk about it. Why the helmet though, Kevin? That was kind of weird.
It was festive at Rams Park. Fun. If you’ve never been, go. It’s free, parking is free, you’re with a bunch of other fans and you’re right there with your team.
