Did you know…?*
Warner went undrafted in the 1994 NFL Draft? The Green Bay Packers called him to come and try out, but he didn’t make the team.
Warner spent 1994 doing misc jobs waiting for another NFL team to give him a call. No one called.
No one called in 1995 so Warner was off to the Arena Football League and signed with the Iowa Barnstormers.
Warner was named to the AFL’s First-team All-Arena in both 1996 and 1997 after he led the Barnstormers to Arena Bowl appearances in both seasons. (apparently they lost…)
In 1997 Warner finally received a call from the Chicago Bears. On Kurt’s honeymoon he was bitten by a spider. The results of the bite were so severe he was unable to make the try out. (So much for Spidey powers…)
In 1998 Kurt got another call. This time it came from the St Louis Rams. They hired him and promptly shipped him off to NFL Europe (Amsterdam Admirals).
After an amazing season for Amsterdam Admirals, Kurt was brought back for the Rams 1998 season where he sat on the bench as a third stringer. He did get some playing time and ended the with season 4 of 11 passing attempts for 39 yards and a 47.2 QB rating.
Kurt started the 1999 season as the Rams second string QB. Rams starting QB Trent Green tore his ACL during the preseason making Warner #1 (What?)?
Warner threw three touchdown passes in each of his first three NFL starts; he is the only NFL quarterback in history to accomplish that feat.
Kurt ended the 1999 season as the NFL MVP, the winning QB for Super Bowl 34, and Super Bowl MVP (WHAT?).
After reading all of that all I can say is… I can’t believe he wasn’t able to win an Arena Bowl Championship. Just Kidding. Anyways, I’m sure you know the rest. Many props to one of the Rams all time favorite super stars.
