Rumor has it there is a good chance the Rams are going to trade down in the upcoming college draft. Makes me wonder who we (the Rams) should be going after? College picks can be such a roll of the dice. Will his game transfer to the NFL? What character defects will be exposed? How will he handle the pressures of wealth and fame? For my money I’d rather have a proven commodity. So, my mind turns to free agency. If I could pick up anyone I wanted… who would it be? Without a doubt it would be Carl Nicks, Pro Bowl guard for the New Orleans Saints. He is a valued player for the Saints, but if he gets rolled over by the Drew-Brees-Payday-Train, it is possible the Saints would need to cut cap space and he could land on the chopping block (a man can dream can’t he).
Funny thing is that Nicks was one of the guys people had questions about coming into the 2008 draft. After being arrested his senior year at Nebraska, he was drafted in the 5th round by the Saints. In his rookie NFL season he was brought in to replace the injured Jamar Nesbit and Nicks clearly made the most of the opportunity. He displayed exemplary performance on the field while off the field he went so far as to apologize to head coach Bo Pelini for his behavior as a Nebraska athlete. Nicks became the Saints starting left guard in 2009 and has started every game since. His behavior has not been perfect (and whose is?), but his playing excellence earned him a selection to the 2010 and 2011 Pro Bowl (in 2011 he was also named as an AP 1st-First-Team All-Pro).
It’s a long shot that Nick’s will actually be released to free agency, but if he does, I think the Rams should take a serious look at this talented and proven player.

Surprised not to see anything written about gregg williams in here. He’s our D coordinator and will most likely be suspended and should be fired anyway. What he knew about was no longer about winning football games but hurting another person and paying the other person for doing it.
I’m a huge rams fan hearing about Gregg Williams most likely getting suspended is what mattered to me. Going through the whole learning of new schemes is what our problem was last year plus not having an offseason to do it. Now were gonna behind on finding another defensive coordinator. Last thing we need is poor defense. Defense has always been a problem up until last season, we really don’t need to have another set back there.
Time to post things that are happening now and not something about what we should/could do in free agency 2 weeks from now.
From what I’ve read, for the Rams… it seems the whole G Williams things will not be much of an issue. Might affect the Saints and Williams will probably get a hefty fine, but it shouldn’t affect the Rams.
What if he gets suspended? And do we really want to keep someone like this anyway? I think its time to look else where before its too late.
I think we should wait and see exactly what unfolds with the situation. We hired the best DC that was available this year. He is a passionate guy that can provide some fire to this defensive. The media tends to blow some things out of proportion so people should remain objective until the whole story unfolds. Keeping Williams and having him punished for a small period is better than hiring a lower quality guy.
I’d rather go with a lower quality guy then a lower quality human being who turns his players into hitmen. I wonder how much money the guy who blindsided former rams superbowl mvp Kurt Warner got in the 2010 divisional round? I think we should go in a different direction at least then win or lose i can respect our coaching staff.
