The Rams and Dolphins are still waiting for Jeff Fisher to make a decision on where he will take his coaching talents next year. (By the way, is the phrase “I’m going to take my talents” the most insidiously annoying thing to come out of LeBron’s “The Decision”… ok back to football.)
Considering Horton is currently the only other person the Rams have interviewed, this seems to ring true. However, it seemed that if Fisher turned down the Rams they would open up their coaching pool and interview such names as Mike Sherman and others. (As another aside “blew them away in the interview” is used far too often around NFL circles. Either all of these guys are fantastic interviewers or it is typical telephone game hyperbole.)
Considering Ray Horton plays a “hybrid” 3-4 and has presided over mediocre units in Arizona, color me non-plussed by this little tidbit of information.
I always thought he was a good coach and am surprised he never got a second head coaching shot in the NFL…Jim Fassel. Average coaches like Norv Turner/Wade Phillips/Chan Gailey/Romeo Crennel have all gotten second or sometimes even third chances to be NFL HCs within the last several years. Why not Fassel? Fassel is currently a head coach in the United Football League and has had success, winning two championships. The Rams talked to him in 2009 before deciding on Spags. I think he would be a great fall back option if Fisher goes else where.
