The Rams traded for Brandon Lloyd for a pick that ended up being a 5th round selection in the 2012 draft during the season. He showed himself to be the best wide receiver they have had since the Bruce/Holt era and even though he didn’t single-handedly lead to an offensive resurgence, he played well. However, Lloyd is a free agent after this season and has said that he wants to continue to play for Josh McDaniels, who he has flourished under McDaniels unlike other times in his career:
“I can’t even lie about that,” Lloyd said. “I’m tied to McDaniels. He uses me differently than other offensive coordinators used me in my entire career. He uses me as an every-play receiver. The short game, mid-range game, gimmick passes, deep balls…
So that is definitely going to be a. …
At this point Lloyd paused and didn’t finish the thought.
A consideration? A factor?
“Probably No. 1 (as a factor),” Lloyd replied. “Because I want to be successful, and I want to earn whatever money I’m making. I want to be used in ways where I feel comfortable and I can be successful. And Josh knows how to do that.”
That is about as blatant you can get while attempting to be politically correct to the press. Lloyd wants to play for McDaniels and McDaniels is now in New England. It is not a huge leap to say that Brandon Lloyd will leave St. Louis for the New England Patriots in the offseason. And considering how well Lloyd plays in McDaniels system and how anonymous he is in other systems, I’m not sure the Rams will even want to keep him at this point.
