Thursday Rumors: Fisher and General Managers

Another day another full plate of Rams news and rumors.  Let’s start with the GM candidates and then another episode of How the Jeff Fisher Turns.

Eric DeCosta – Director of Player Personnel, Baltimore – DeCosta is one of the big-time up and comers in the NFL and has been promoted within the Ravens organization.  He was previously in charge of the amateur scouting and all the drafted talent on the Ravens roster comes back to DeCosta.  The Rams would be well off emulating the Ravens draft strategy.  DeCosta has been confirmed as a candidate.

Les Snead – Director of Player Personnel, Atlanta – Another up and comer within NFL circles, he has already interviewed in San Francisco for a GM opening.  Snead has been confirmed as a candidate for the Rams.

Brian Gaine – Director of Player Personnel, Miami – Gaine we know less about as he is a Bill Parcells disciple and came to Miami with Parcells.  The Rams have already talked to Gaine, so it is not certain if he is high on their wish list.

Amongst the three names above, my order of preference would be DeCosta, Snead and then Gaine.

And on to the Jeff Fisher soap opera as he is in the 2nd day of the interview with Stan Kroenke in Denver of all places.  (Nice of Stan to not even attempt to make his way to St. Louis for the meeting.)  By all accounts, we will have a much better idea of Fisher’s leanings or decision by Friday or Saturday.  Fisher seems to have a few more interviews lined up, including with the Tampa Bay Bucs.  Per Rick Stroud (@nflstroud on Twitter) who covers the Bucs:

Bucs plan to meet with former Titans coach Jeff Fisher, but working with his schedule since he has several interviews lined up.

“Several” is an interesting term.  Several, to me indicates more than three.  The current NFL head coaching openings are St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Miami, Jacksonville, Kansas City.  That is “several” openings for me.  So, seems like Fisher has interviews lined up with almost all teams with openings.

However, all accounts have Fisher deciding between the Rams and the Dolphins and making his decision very quickly.  Developing.
