Cardinals vs Rams – Another 1 Bites the Dust

The Rams showed improved play today by scoring 2 touchdowns for only the second time the entire season (also against the Saints).  Unfortunately, the Rams rush defense was completely exposed allowing Beanie Wells 228 yards and a TD (a team record) and a total of 268 rushing yards for the Cardinals offense.  Tack on another 95 yards (and a TD) by Cardinals kick returner Patrick Peterson and you see the Rams being pushed back into a whole once again.  Worse than any of this is a continued lack of desire to win by Rams’ coaches.  At the end of the first half the Rams let time tick away and kicked a field goal on 3rd down instead of first attempting a TD.  They were on the Cardinals 17 yard line.  In the 4th quarter with just over 4 minutes left to play, the Rams passed up an opportunity to keep their drive alive.  They were deep in their own territory, but in my eyes this was a do or die situation.  It was 4th and 1 and the Rams elected to punt the ball away.  What?  My amazement was met by boos from the remaining crowd at the Edward Jones Dome.  The Cardinals ran the clock down, the Rams never touched the ball again, and we etch another line in the losing column.  All sports fans can handle a loss, but we cannot tolerate a coaching staff that does not have the guts to win.

(Final score: Rams 20, Cardinals 23)
