On The Bubble: TE Edition

With the cutdown from 90 to 80 players coming in a week, there is no better time than the present to look at the Rams roster and who will make the team, now we will take a look at the tight end position.

Starter: Lance Kendricks – The Rams didn’t draft Lance Kendricks for him to sit on the bench and he has already been working with the first team.  Kendricks size and speed combination will make trouble for any opposing linebacker or safety.

Backup: Michael Hoomanawanui – Big Mike is hurt again and possibly seriously again.  He had the size and hands and inline blocking ability the Rams covet in a tight end.  This year the Rams are planning on using a lot of 2 WR, 2 TE, 1 RB sets and Mike should play a huge role in those sets if he can stay healthy.  And that’s a big if.

Backup: Billy Bajema – Bajema is a blocking specialist and has flashed some receiving skills in the past.  He’ll make the team for his blocking skills.

Backup: Fendi Onobun – Onobun was drafted in 2010 for his raw potential and impressed enough in the preseason to force the Rams to put him on the active roster rather than put him through waivers to place him on the practice squad.  Onobun has added bulk this offseason and has a chance to step up with Hoomanawanui’s injury.  Whether he takes the opportunity is up to him.

Depth: Schuylar Oordt – Oordt has shown signs of being a good prospect, but faces an uphill climb against the 4 TEs above him.  But, with Big Mike’s unstable health situation, Oordt should find himself on the practice squad easily.

Waiver Bait: Ben Guidugli and DeMarco Cosby – Both players are undrafted free agents and haven’t played much in the preseason and should find themselves cut next week or on the final cutdown day.
