Rams Go TE in Round Two – Land Lance Kendricks From Wisconsin

The Rams have added a TE to the roster in round two with the 47th overall pick, grabbing Wisconsin tight end Lance Kendricks.

Here’s the Scouting Report from NFL Draft Gab on Lance:

Strengths: A very good overall athlete. A fluid and easy mover in space. Good release quickness off the line of scrimmage and has the ability to settle in his route quickly. A natural pass catcher with soft hands, knows when to snatch or cradle the ball in. Understands coverage and shows the ability to adjust quickly, gear down, and settle in a soft spot within the underneath zone. Has the balance to tiptoe the sideline and extend his body to make catches away from his frame while staying in his route. Solid route runner and doesn’t round off to come out of his breaks. Has the speed to stretch the seam and separate from linebackers or get a step on the safety. Lined up in-line and flexed out; stayed on the field for spread sets. Good blocker at the second level, shows that he can get inside of linebackers and neutralize their pursuit.

Needs Improvement: Loses concentration at times and will feel the incoming defender; leading to short arms and dropped passes. Has narrow hips and isn’t strong enough in his base to drive defensive ends or even linebackers off the line; at best he can wall-off and seal the edge. Releases high off the line in run support and gets thrown around even when he wins leverage. On the ground too much. Can be bumped off routes by linebackers.

Kendricks gives Sam Bradford a good option at the TE spot, and he ranks 18th all-time at UW with 1,160 career receiving yards.

is there any real need for the rams to get another tight end? no there is not that is on of the few positions that is filled with good player. this was a waste of a pick

  2. travis says:

passed up several good players for a TE that cant block!!

  3. Justin says:

I was under the impression this offense didn’t really use pass catching tight ends? Anyway Stephen Paea was still available as well as Mikel Leshoure both which would have filled more pressing needs.

Who knows what will happen in free agency though.

Also I don’t know who exactly the “good” tight ends are the Rams supposedly have?
