Rams Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur still looks like the favorite in Cleveland and it is possibly close to a done deal. Here’s the tweet from SI’s Peter King:
Hearing the Browns could have a coach in place by Thursday. Now looking for a defensive coordinator. Pat Shurmur still the best guess.
If the Browns are looking for a defensive coordinator, that would mean that they are working on an offensive head coach. They interviewed Perry Fewell, a defensive coach and Mike Mularkey an offensive coach, but he is still alive in the playoffs with Atlanta. Dave Wannstedt has also been mentioned, but he is a defensive coach as well. Marty Mornhinweg from Philadelphia might be involved as well, but he has not been mentioned anywhere.
That would seem to indicate that Shurmur is going to be the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
UPDATE: Rams oracle Adam Schefter said on ESPN that the Browns were “leaning towards Pat Shurmur”.
