Rams Wide Receivers Final Stats

The Rams wide receivers did not have a good year by any account, so let’s look at how they performed in Football Outsiders metrics.

Over 50 passes:

Player Team DYAR Rk YAR Rk DVOA Rk VOA Passes Yards EYds TD Catch
B.Gibson STL 20 70 48 63 -9.9% 70 -6.1% 91 620 627 2 58% 0
D.Amendola STL -70 80 -46 77 -19.8% 76 -17.4% 123 689 688 3 69% 1
L.Robinson STL -141 84 -117 84 -36.6% 84 -32.6% 75 344 270 2 45% 0

Under 50 passes:

Player Team DYAR YAR DVOA VOA Passes Yards EYds TD Catch
D.Alexander STL 43 62 1.0% 7.0% 37 306 318 1 54% 0
M.Clayton STL 3 19 -11.9% -6.8% 42 306 276 2 55% 0
M.Gilyard STL -38 -39 -44.5% -45.0% 16 63 41 0 38% 0

This is a pretty damning statistical analysis about the Rams receivers.  Only one player had positive DVOA and only 3 players had positive DYAR.  Laurent Robinson was the second worst receiver ranked by the Football Outsiders in 2009 and Danny Amendola was not much ahead.  Robinson was hurt by his extremely low catch rate and Amendola by his very low yards per catch.

  1. Bracken says:

The surprising part of that list is Clayton. By most accounts he was our top WR, a(and we’re all eager to bring back next year as a result), but he didn’t really stand out by DVOA. Was the perception of success driven purely by volume, or did he excel in ways that aren’t captured by DVOA?

  2. Jeff says:

Agreed. That’s the most stunning part about the stats. And Clayton’s catch rate seems lower than I remember as well.
