The Cleveland Browns will be interviewing Rams OC Pat Shurmur for their vacant head coaching position on Thursday per Greg A Bedard on Twitter.
Adam Schefter, ESPN oracle of all things NFL and Rams indicated that he “might be the favorite”. This is very surprising news.
my god. browns fan here and want a sanity check.
first off, the rams have been my ‘pet’ team since our pre-season game. i watched that game and thought — damn, either they look good or we’re bad… but i think the rams look good. as a result, i bet and watched the rams a lot this year. impressive bookend tackles plus best RB in football.. team can be solid even if twice cut danny amendola is #1 WR.
but watching your games, the playcalling was … remedial. i checked the stats — rams were 30th in yds per pass attempt. that’s what i expected. you guys checked down more than we did with brady quinn.
and then … your first playoff game since 2004 … 184 total yds, 9 punts, 2 FGs. holy christ.
so my question rams fans –> should i be horrified that the browns are interviewing pat shurmur? i understand the cronyism angle… but geez. shurmur sucks.
tell me i’m wrong, please!
There is some talk in the Rams circles that HC Steve Spagnuolo has been keeping the reins tight on the offense and forcing Shurmur to go completely conservative. So, Shurmur might be capable of doing better. There’s no way of proving that unless the Rams get more talent and Spags takes the training wheels off or Shurmur goes somewhere else (ie Cleveland) and excels.
Watching the final game in Seattle was hard! Whoever was being too conservative in that game should be fired whether it was spags or shurmur…
