RamView: Week 11 – Receivers

Michael Hoomanawanui (4-46) didn’t have the most catches today but was in on the most important plays, starting with his 25-yard TD catch in the 1st. The Rams got the Falcon defense flowing west, but with Mike running pretty much a wheel route east, getting open for the TD pretty easily with LB Mike Peterson getting caught up in traffic. The Illinois TE’s acrobatic 18-yard sideline catch at the end of the 1st kept the Rams’ FG drive moving. Another TD appeared to be headed Mike’s way in the 4th, but on an intended shovel pass, he and guard Adam Goldberg collided, leading the play to go horribly awry. Mike’s receiving skills have been a pretty pleasant surprise this season, and it looks like the Rams are trying harder to get him into the game plan. No problems in that area for Danny Amendola, with 8 catches for 63 out of the slot, or Brandon Gibson (5-42), who did a little less dancing this week and made a nice play in the corner of the end zone for the Rams’ 2nd TD. Though tightly covered, he made a nice two-handed grab and did a nice job to keep it from hitting the ground while going down, so as to avoid a Calvin Johnson. Nice to see Laurent Robinson (5-55) haul in a couple of 20-plus-yard catches, too, but not only is he easily blanketed by DBs on deep routes, the Falcon MLB had him draped on an early pattern where Bradford was looking for him deep over the middle. Robinson also needs to keep in mind to fight harder for contestable passes; hopefully some of these areas will improve as he (finally) works better into the flow of the Ram offense.
