Rams vs Falcons: Q2 Update

The second quarter did not start out as well for the Rams as the first.  That ‘crisp’ drive I mentioned previously turned a little soggy.  The Rams stalled, but were able to finish with a beautiful 53 yard field goal by Josh Brown.  And that’s about all there is to talk about regarding the Rams offense for this quarter.  One drive started deep and went no where.  The next drive started in average field position, but again went nowhere.  Both ending in punts.

The second quarter also saw the Rams looking more and more confused on defense.   They didn’t seems prepared for the Falcons combined offensive threats: Ryan, Turner, and White.  On passing plays the Rams seemed to be playing fairly far back which opened it up for Ryan to make several first downs with his legs.  On running plays Turner’s power consistently took him through the Rams O-line.  Rams linebackers were forced to chop him down before he could gobble up even more yards.  And again, since the Rams played back on passing plays, they were killed on 10 yard, just past the first down line, passes.  The Falcons began throwing and completing these plays pretty much at will.  The outcome of these threats?  1 TD and 2 field goals.  Things could have been have been worse, but in the last 2 minutes of the half the Ram’s red zone defense got tough once again and held the Falcons to 3 points.

It’s halftime and the score is Ram 10,  Falcons 16.  We are still very much in this one.  Hopefully, the Rams will make some adjustments at the half and slow the Falcons down.  The second half will start shortly and there is more to come.
