Rams vs 49ers: 1st QTR Update

The Rams open the game with a drive taking them all the way to the 49ers 4 yard line. Well, almost. The Rams were charged with a holding penalty. Instead of being first and goal at the 4, we were pushed back to the 30 and forced to settle for a field goal. Not much good happened for the Rams in the first (except for a couple of sacks that stalled one 49er drive). Lady luck did show her face as the Rams escaped an interception and near TD by Nate Clements which was wiped out with an offsides penalty and again when a Bradford fumble was narrowly recovered.

As the quarter progressed the Rams seem more and more unprepared for 49ers QB Troy Smith. Smith is beginning to shred the Rams secondary. A perfect example was a 65 yard pass to Josh Morgan which led to a 1 yard TD run by Frank Gore. The Rams secondary really needs to put it into second gear or the 49ers new gun slinging QB could mortally wound us. 1st quarter score: Rams 3, 49ers 7.  More to come…
