Rams Gain Ground On Bye Week

The Rams woke up this Monday morning in a tie for first place in the NFC West without even playing a game this week.  The other NFC West teams in action this week, Arizona and Seattle both lost, putting the Rams in a tie with Seattle for 1st place at 4-4.  Here’s the NFC West standings as of today. (Sorry if the table does not show up correctly for you.)

NFC West Team W L T Pct PF PA Net Pts TD Home Road Div Pct Conf Pct
St. Louis Rams 4 4 0 .500 140 141 -1 14 4-1 0-3 1-1 .500 3-3 .500
Seattle Seahawks 4 4 0 .500 130 181 -51 14 3-1 1-3 2-1 .667 3-2 .600
Arizona Cardinals 3 5 0 .375 157 225 -68 19 2-1 1-4 1-1 .500 2-4 .333
San Francisco 49ers 2 6 0 .250 137 178 -41 16 2-2 0-4 0-1 .000 0-5 .000

Head to head is the first tie breaker and the Rams have that advantage over Seattle with 1 game to play and Arizona has that advantage over the Rams with 1 game to play. Both games will be away from home. The Rams obviously have both games to play against last place San Francisco.  Because of the Rams advantage over Seattle, they sit in first place after their bye week. We will not go wild on the tie breaking procedures, but the next tie breaker is divisional record, which Seattle leads, but has played 1 more game in the division than the Rams.

The NFC West is more than likely going to come down to tie breakers because no one team is going to run away with the division.  The Rams second half of the season is more difficult than the first half, but the remaining 4 division games remain of the utmost importance.

Congrats to the Rams, but hopefully Seahawks will take their rightful place at the top after week 10 😛
