Rams vs Raiders: Another Sad Ending

I’d like to tell you things did not go as we all expected. I’d like to tell you that after we last talked Sam Bradford marched our team down the field. I’d like to tell you he threw a beautiful 20 yard pass to Clayton for (after review) a touch down. Ok, I can tell you the last 2 things cause they did happen, but it wasn’t enough. Much like last year, if something could go wrong in the final minutes; it did.

There was approximately 3 mins left to play in the game. The Ram’s are coming off an inspired drive ending in a TD. We trail 14-16, but we had 3 time outs and only needed a field goal for a win. It was second down and after an incomplete pass by Gradowski, Ram’s defensive tackle Robbins is called for a very questionable personal foul (late hit on the QB). It’s a 15 yard penalty and a first down. Time is ticking. The Rams have got to get a stop.

Instead, McFadden runs for another first down and I can feel the sweat running down the back of my neck. A couple of unsuccessful plays and it was 3rd and 7. There was just over 2 mins left to play. This is it. A stop here and the Rams have a chance. Raider’s WR Murphy has had his foot print all over this game. Once again running to the left side of the field Gradowski throws him the ball. Almost effortlessly he makes the catch (and the first down) over Ram’s CB Jerome Murphy. For all intensive purposes the game ends here. Officially the Raiders had to make a few kneel downs, but the Raiders beat the Rams by a score of 16-14. A sad ending to what could have been a Rams victory.
