Rams Used Again As Westbrook Signs with 49ers

Brian Westbrook strung the Rams along for weeks and when another team finally had a need for a running back, Westbrook officially spurned the more lucrative offer from the Rams.  In a situation that is all to familiar for the Rams with the Terrell Owens situation from earlier this summer, the Rams find themselves on the outside looking in on a big name veteran free agent.  Both players had multiple offers on the table, one reportedly from the Rams.  Both players leaked to ESPN that they would be signing with the Rams to potentially extract quick offers or get larger offers from other teams.    Both players got the new or increased offers they were looking for and signed elsewhere.

For whatever reason, the Rams are being used as the infamous “other team” in negotiations.  The Rams are building their roster from within, but reached out to some veteran help this year.  They have a need for depth at both running back and wide receiver which connected both players to the Rams as well.

The Rams have quickly rebutted every alleged report about players they are supposed to be signing, but still are used by free agents until they can wrangle a better landing spot.  One day it will not have to be that way.
