Although I have spent a large portion of my football life hating Joe Montana and the Niners; this statement makes me reconsider the direction of my scorn. But as I think back through the years I really can’t recall a tremendous amount grief at the hands of Mr. Favre.
Upon further review, at about 10,000 feet it appears the damage has been less extensive. In the last 19 years the Rams have only faced Brett et all 11 times in the regular season. Here are the outcomes:
1992 – Packers Beat Rams 28-13
1993 – Packers Beat Rams 36-6
1994 – Packers Beat Rams 24-17
1995 – Rams Beat Packers 17-14
1997 – Packers Beat Rams 17-7
2003 – Rams Beat Packers 34-24
2004 – Packers Beat Rams 45-17
2006 – Rams Beat packers 23-20
2007 – Packers Beat Rams 33-14
2008 – Jets Beat Rams 47-3
2009 – Minnesota Beats Rams 38-10
That works out to 3 Rams wins versus 8 Favre wins. This is still enough for me to want to take a piece out of Brett and his Wrangler jeans (and warrants an even closer look).
From 2007-2009 the Rams have won a grand total of 6 games. Heck, we hate just about everyone except for Matt Stafford these days. We even hate JaMarcus Russel so… if I take away Brett’s 3 victories during that time (because almost everyone beat us) it brings the number to Rams 3 – Brett 5.
And, if I throw in our 1 and only post season matchup against the Packers (45-17, 2001 division win), the ratio becomes a very consumable Rams 4- Brett 5.
Should Brett Favre retire? As a Rams fan… I say let the man do whatever he wants. After 19 years he has still been selected to the Pro Bowl the last 3 consecutive years.
He is an 11-time Pro Bowler & 3-time First-Team All-Pro who had one of his best years ever in 2009. He has broken just about every QB record on the books. Brett, come on back. Maybe the Rams can hire him in 2011 and he can teach our boy Bradford a few tricks.
