Rams Front Office Gets Benefit Of The Doubt

Don’t forget to weigh in on this month’s approval polling here!

These are the four highest profile cuts and trades the Rams front office made before and during the 2009 season.

Cut Orlando Pace
Cut Torry Holt
Cut Chris Draft
Trade Will Witherspoon for Brandon Gibson and a 5th round pick

The Rams came out winners in all four of those moves.  Orlando Pace signed with Chicago and struggled at left tackle and got injured.  He is currently considering retirement.  Holt signed with Jacksonville and had 722 yards receiving, his career low.  Holt was cut by Jacksonville after the season and signed with New England.  Draft signed on with Buffalo midseason and played in 11 games, starting 3.  He signed with Washington in the offseason because he only signed a 1 year deal with Buffalo.  Will Witherspoon had a fantastic game in his first Eagles game, but went downhill from there and Philadelphia cut Witherspoon after the season.  The Rams also got an extra draft pick and Brandon Gibson who showed potential in his few games in 2009.

All that being said, the Rams made the questionable move yesterday of allowing OJ Atogwe to become a free agent instead of giving him a 1 year $7 million deal.  But, my faith is with the Rams front office because they have given us Rams fans no reason to doubt them.  The Rams value Atogwe less than Atogwe and his agent value his play.  With the way the Rams play with their safeties, Atogwe may be less valuable.

Rams Herd takes a great look at Atogwe’s presence on the field and what it does to the Rams numbers, hit up the article here.
