Trying Not To Freak Out About Steven Jackson’s Back Surgery

A report in the Post-Dispatch by the always hard-working Jim Thomas calmly brings to light the fact that Steven Jackson, the Rams star running back had back surgery less than a month ago.  Here’s the part where I try not to freak out.

Steven Jackson hurt his back late in the season in 2009 and was not the same punishing runner after the injury.  He hoped rest would cure the issue, but after resting did not end the pain, he had surgery … in April!  Steve Spagnuolo does his best to soothe our fears:

“It was a minor procedure,” coach Steve Spagnuolo told the Post-Dispatch on Tuesday evening. “He feels great. It’s really not a big deal.”

However, they are holding him out of offseason practices and OTAs and possibly the start of training camp.  I understand the concept and I think it would be a good idea to keep Jackson as fresh as possible going into the season.  However, holding him out of practice does not calm my nerves about the injury.

I’m sure Jackson will be 100% heading into the season, but this is yet another thing to worry about surrounding the 2010 St. Louis Rams.
