Barron’s Back

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch breaks the news that the Rams wayward tackle Alex Barron will sign his tender and report to OTAs.  He missed the team’s offseason workout, but he was reportedly working out on his own.  As far as the optomism for Barron’s performance this season?  His agent has that covered.

“Alex is planning on having the best year of his career … I believe Alex will show that he’ll be one of the best tackles in the NFC.”

Wow, ok, now that we have that covered…  I just don’t know what else to say.  Here’s Jim Thomas on Barron’s work:

Barron’s best work came in 2009 and 2007, when he played left tackle.

According to Pro Football Focus, who grades out every player on every play, Barron had an overall score of -23.7 in 2009 when he played 16 games at left tackle.  And 2008, he scored -15.9 for 16 games at right tackle.  My opinion is Barron that Barron is a finesse tackle, so he has a little bit of an easier time on the left side where there is less power run blocking.  His low scores in Pro Football Focus are mostly a byproduct of his penalties.  His penalties are a byproduct of him losing focus.

If Barron could EVER find focus on concentrate on every snap, then he would be a solid tackle.  However, that is a very large IF.
