Day 1 Of The Post-Bulger Era Begins Today

With Marc Bulger’s sudden, but not too surprising release, the Rams will enter an NFL season without Bulger’s familiar number 10 jersey flinging passes for the first time since 2002.  He has been under center for the Rams for seven years, even though he lost plenty of games to injury during that time.

After Sam Bradford’s pro day, reportedly, Marc Bulger privately asked for his release.  He did not raise the issue with the press or rip anyone on his way out.  He continued to attend offseason workouts at Rams Park, all the while, he knew the writing was on the wall.  Even in his release, Bulger quietly and stoically went about his job.

Bulger is by all accounts a great and quiet guy off the field.  We’d like to wish him the best of luck with his new team.

The Rams now have 3 quarterbacks on their roster:

AJ Feeley – signed this offseason hasn’t throw a regular season pass in a few years and is best suited for a backup/mentor role.  Knows the Rams offense.

Keith Null – Null was overexposed in 2009 as not quite ready to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.  Which is no rip on Null, few rookie quarterbacks are able to start effectively in their rookie campaign.  He’ll need time to continue to get comfortable in the Rams offense.  He has talent, but needs time.

Mike Reilly – Reilly was signed late in the season as injuries to Bulger and Boller, both no longer on the team, continued to mount.  Like Null, he is a developmental quarterback prospect.  He was signed to a 2 year deal last year, so the Rams think he can stick around this year.
