McNabb: Still not coming to St. Louis.
So, this afternoon, this doozy of a ridiculous rumor gets posted on the Philly Inquirer website:
The Eagles have an offer on the table that would give them St. Louis’ second-round draft pick (33d overall) in exchange for McNabb, according to a league source. The deal, however, is “not yet completed,” the source said. Rams free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe could also be involved in the deal, according to another league source.
You cannot be serious! The Rams would trade the 33rd overall selection a month before the draft when that selection has so much power between late Thursday and when the 2nd round begins on Friday night? That makes no sense. And the fact that the Rams would throw in OJ Atogwe as well is ridiculous. Just the #33 selection is too much for the aging quarterback for the rebuilding Rams.
This is something that belongs on a random Philadelphia sports forum and not in an actual columnists article.
The denials came quickly from Rams GM Billy Devaney. He spoke to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Devaney added: “It’s utterly ridiculous. I haven’t talked to Philadelphia about any of their players.”
And here is the kicker from Jim Thomas.
Atogwe currently cannot be traded since he’s not under contract. He was given the lowest possible tender as a restricted free agent, but has not signed that tender.
This is a rumor that is so ridiculous that it is a completely impossible. Not very often does the perfect ridiculous trade rumor cause this many waves. The rumor is not even ridiculous, it is impossible.
Also, it is not coincidental that this rumor originates from Philadelphia while the Eagles are having having trouble dealing any of their quarterbacks for the right price and need to drive up the price.
