Kevin Curtis was released yesterday by the Philadelphia Eagles and the Rams have a need for a veteran wide receiver presence on their squad. Should the Rams bring back Curtis for a second tour of duty with the team?
Curtis has been hurt most of the recent seasons and the Rams surely do not need another injury-plagued wide receiver. Curtis was a star in the Mike Martz offense, which was two regimes ago. It was certainly a mistake of epic proportions for the Rams to let Curtis go and instead pick up Drew Bennett, but the Rams cannot undue the error by signing him again this offseason.
However, Curtis is still a good athlete and as long as he hasn’t lost all of his patented speed, he should still be a viable wide receiver. He and Donnie Avery are both similar players with top-flight straight-line speed. With depth in the form of Brandon Gibson and Keenan Burton behind potential starters Donnie Avery, Laurent Robinson and slot receiver Danny Amendola, would the Rams have room for Curtis?
It is unclear if Kevin Curtis would be a fit with the Rams, but he would be welcomed back by Rams fans with open arms who remember his salad days with the high flying Rams of yore.
