The Rams have dealt with (reportedly) all their tenders for this uncapped season and here are the results in a convenient list form:
S OJ Atogwe – Right of First Refusal (reportedly)
OT Alex Barron – 2nd round
DT Clifton Ryan – 2nd round
DE Victor Adejanju – 4th round
RB Samkon Gado – released
WR Ruvell Martin – released
LS Ryan Neill – released
DB Eric Bassey – released
G Mark Setterstrom – released
There are a few more still unknown as of now: (because the Rams may be working on a long-term deal with them)
S Craig Dahl
DT Gary Gibson
TE Daniel Fells
Analysis after the jump!
Atogwe is the biggest news of the day as the Rams would get no draft pick compensation if he signed a “poison-pill” offer sheet somewhere else. That was the Rams only possible path except giving Atogwe $7 million next season. Atogwe is certainly not worth that much money at safety, but it seems extreme to dangle him to other teams for no draft pick compensation just to reduce his salary by over $5 million. I don’t think Craig Dahl is an acceptable replacement for Atogwe given Dahl’s struggles in coverage.
The Rams are also taking a risk with Mark Setterstrom, allowing him to test free agency as well. Additionally, the Rams must think that Chris Massey will be able to recover from his injury from last season to long snap for the Rams in 2010. And so long, Samkon Gado. Gado peaked with a long touchdown run in the preseason and then did very little in the regular season.
We will see when the official announcements come for the rest of the Rams.
