The Rams are going to meet with free agent defensive end, Leonard Little this week at the NFL scouting combine to test the waters to see if it possible to bring Leonard back to the Rams, the only team he has played for in his NFL career.
Jim Haslett, former Rams defensive coordinator and interim head coach has expressed interest in bringing Little to his new employer, the Washington Redskins.
Little still probably has some gas in the tank as a situational pass rusher. He had a lot of success early in 2009 before succumbing to nagging injuries as the season wore on. However, Little did have the single best individual defensive play of the season against Jacksonville as he identified a swing pass, leaped, intercepted it and ran down the field, diving for the pylon and a touchdown.
The only issue for Little and the Rams is that the team will want to bring Little back for less than his 2009 salary of $8 million/year. Would Little be interested to come back to the Rams for 1 or 2 more years, or will he want to move on? Will Little want to continue to be a part of the Rams rebuilding process or will he want to go to a team that has a chance at the playoffs in 2010?
The Rams will have until March 5th to negotiate with Little on their own before he hits the open market. If Julius Peppers hits the free agent market, Little will be easily over-shadowed, but would be a great addition for any team. Lots of teams will be after Little, so the Rams should attempt to lock him up early.
