Bradford And The Rams Rumors

It was interesting to see the first rumors come out early in draft season with the Rams linked to Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford by a Detroit Lions insider on local Detroit radio.

“When I was down at the Super Bowl,” Killer explains on WDFN-AM, “one of the interesting things, talking to some of the St. Louis guys, they told me that the Rams were very close to taking Sanchez – Mark Sanchez – at No. 2, but they thought it might be just too much of a reach for a guy who only played one season.

“So now they’re looking at this, at Sanchez, what if they would have taken him? They would’ve had their quarterback. Now are you going to tell me that they’re going to pass on another shot at a top-flight guy?

This is terrible logic all around.  “Killer’s” argument is that since Sam Bradford was the top draft prospect last year before returning to school and if his shoulder checks out, he should return to the top draft prospect.  And then he assumes since the Rams were close to picking Marc Sanchez last season, that they would be interested in another quarterback the next season.  The Rams should be interested in a quarterback in the 2010 NFL draft, because they need one.  Bradford is not perfect and would require a massive contract.  If the Rams pick a quarterback at 1st overall, they will have to know he’s the right man for the job.

I’m not saying that the Rams won’t take Sam Bradford.  Mocking the Draft has made much better reasoned case for Sam Bradford as well. I just think it is interesting what HUGE leaps of logic can be made in regards to the top of the draft as especially the quarterback position.

The Rams coaches and trainers will get plenty of time with Bradford over the next few months and there will be plenty to talk about over the next few months as the draft boards crystallize.
