Who To Keep: LB

vobora

With the Rams season over, it is time to think about who should be back next year at every position.  Let’s take a look through player by player. Next up are the linebackers.

James Laurinatis – Laurinatis will be a starter and a 3 down middle linebacker and the defensive quarterback for the foreseeable future for the St. Louis Rams.  With Steven Jackson, Chris Long and Jason Smith, he’s a cornerstone of the Rams rebuilding project.

David Vobora – I think that Vobora is a good player at strongside linebacker for the Rams going forward.  Pro Football Focus, who watches every player in every play in every game rated him as the best player on the Rams defense in 2009, even though he missed 4 games on suspension.  He should have the strongside linebacker spot for the Rams going forward.

Paris Lenon – Paris Lenon is an eight-year veteran and the Rams picked up Lenon mid-season, but the Rams should find an upgrade over Lenon for 2010.  Lenon is a free agent and the Rams should let him walk.

Larry Grant – Grant was at times subbing in for Vobora and Lenon in 2009 for unknown reasons and could be a solid backup for both outside linebacker spots going forward.

Chris Chamberlain – Chris is an undersized linebacker as he played safety in college, but is a great special teams player and is part of the Rams improved special teams play.  He should stay around simply for his play there.

KC Asiodu – KC was added to the active roster from the practice squad late in the season.  He should continue to play special teams for the Rams and be in a fight for a roster spot in 2010.

LB Jay Moore (practice squad)Here’s what I wrote about Jay Moore when he was signed to the practice squad. He has not yet been moved from the practice squad to the Rams active offseason roster.
