Who to Keep: Defensive Tackle

With the Rams season over, it is time to think about who should be back next year at every position.  Let’s take a look through player by player. Next up are the defensive tackles.

Adam Carriker – Adam Carriker is no longer the defensive force the Rams believed he was when they drafted him out of Nebraska.  He is oft-injured and ended up on IR in 2009 before the season even started.  If he can return healthy in 2010, the Rams should invite him back as a rotational defensive lineman as they were beginning to place him in the preseason before he got hurt.

Clifton Ryan – Cliff Ryan is the only starter amongst the bunch and he had a good, solid season in 2010 and would look awful good starting next to Ndamukong Suh in 2010.

The rest of the DTs are after the jump!

Gary Gibson – Gary Gibson also was taken from the starting lineup by injury, after he had worked so hard to get his first starting opportunity.  Gibson by all accounts is a solid defensive lineman and should be back in 2010 as a rotational lineman.

LaJuan Ramsey – Ramsey started for a few games and made some outstanding plays, but also was very anonymous at times.  He has a spot on the Rams roster as a young player, but needs development time.

Leger Douzable – Douzable was picked up from the Giants, and so Spagnuolo must have known something about him.  Like Ramsey, he had some good plays, but was also on the field for some gigantic runs.  He’s a good young player and should be kept around, but if it was between Ramsey, Douzable and Scott, Douzable would be the first to go.

Darell Scott – The Rams drafted Scott in the 4th round and then left him inactive for the first few games and then he slowly made it into the starting lineup late in the season.  He’s a young, promising defensive tackle for the Rams.

Chris Bradwell (practice squad) – Bradwell is a first year player out of Troy, who was previously with Tampa Bay.  He is a bit undersized at 280 pounds.

The Rams could use a starting DT as they were abused at the point of attack by every rushing offense, whether good or bad.  Coach Spagnuolo preaches running the football and stopping the run and the Rams were able to do the former in 2009, but need work on the latter going forward.

I hope we draft Suh. He’s obviously one of, if not, the best players in the country, and he’s right there. You can’t lose. If we draft him, I wouldn’t be surprised if the O-Line magically starts getting good.

Who to Keep Defensive Tackles in St. Louis? The Rams will be making some serious changes to next years roster and hopefully we can see more of Defensively lineman like Dt Chris Bradwell who was a monster on the Tampa Bay Buc Pre-season Squad. I look forward to seeing more of Bradwell in the NFL 2010-2011 season.

Clifton Ryan has done a great job ..we need a big stud next to him and SUH is the man!
