This Has To Be Rock Bottom, Right?

The Rams have won 6 games in the past 3 seasons.  Let that sink in for a bit.

The Saints and Colts have won twice as many games so far this season.

The Rams were a roster is disarray before 2009 and GM Billy Devaney and Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo have the unenviable task of remaking the roster from scratch.  And that’s what the Rams have now, scratch.  The roster was stripped down of any player that had a price tag way over his value (Orlando Pace, Torry Holt, etc).  The Rams filled their roster with young, inexperienced talents (Laurent Robinson, Leger Douzable, etc).  The Rams also stripped any players that had any value to other teams are were not needed for the Rams in the future. (Will Witherspoon)

The Rams strip mined the roster so that they could start fresh without the albatross contracts, mismanagement and dead money that got the Rams into this trouble in the first place.  The Rams had to take a roster that was not full of talent and remove most of the big contracts.  That left the Rams with less talent, but a fresher outlook on the future.  The Rams forced young players into action and so did not have any depth when players started getting injured.  All teams are affected by injuries, but the 2009 Rams were the least capable of absorbing those losses.

We all thought the Rams were on the way up with good management and a better coach.  Turns out the Rams had to take the submarine all the way to the bottom before they are able to bring it back up to the surface.  For all intents and purposes it looks like the Rams have hit that bottom and may stay there for the rest of the season.

Rams fans do not have to be excused for starting to look at the off season with free agency and the draft.  The Rams have to be put back together and there are a lot of pieces missing.
