Rumor Mill: Clausen and Weis to STL

Could Jimmy Clausen and Charlie Weis reunite as offensive coordinator and quarterback in St. Louis?  John Clayton floats that rumor in Inside the Huddle yesterday.

Late this season, Charlie Weis suggested Notre Dame Jimmy Clausen skip his senior year and turn pro, and now the two could reunite. Starting with the Rams, who probably will use this draft to find an eventual replacement for Marc Bulger, Weis is an offensive coordinator candidate for teams looking to draft Clausen, Sam Bradford or another top college quarterback. But those who fall in love with Clausen particularly will be interested in having Weis take Clausen’s development further in the pros.

That’s a very interesting point for Rams fans to consider.  I know the Rams fans have been dissatisfied with first year offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who may just be running the game plan that head coach Steve Spagnuolo has authorized for him.  Either way, with a learning head coach who is of a defensive background, a veteran, high profile offensive coordinator would not be the worst thing in the world.  However, with Weis, Spagnuolo would be forced to give a lot of control over the offense to Weis and so far Spagnuolo has not seemed to keen on giving full control over to his lieutenants.

It is an interesting rumor and one that I will not dismiss out of hand immediately, but one that is a long shot to actually come true.
