St. Louis Rams today promoted TE Eric Butler from the practice squad to the active roster to replace DE CJ Ah You, who was placed on the IR this week.  It is an odd move for the Rams who seemed likely to replace a defensive lineman with another defensive lineman.  This now leaves the Rams with 4 TEs on their active roster.

To replaced Butler, the Rams signed DE Sean Conover to the practice squad.

Here’s what Jim Thomas has to say about Conover, who seems to be much more experienced than the average practice squad player.

Conover, 6-5, 275, was most recently with Detroit. The Bucknell graduate entered the league as a rookie free agent with Tennessee and played in 11 games with two starts for the Titans in 2006 and 2007, recording 25 tackles.
