NFL Week 10: Rams vs Saints

As a Rams fan these days you’ve got to have a sense of humor and an undying sense of optimism. Normally, I am not one to promote blind faith when it comes to sports, but what the heck. And if we are creative, perhaps we can come up with some kind of thin argument to promote a Rams victory.

Attempt 1: The St Louis Rams have the #1 running back in the NFL. Steven Jackson has run the ball 165 times for a total of 784 yards. He finally obtained his first TD of the year against the Lions and now he is hungry. Hungry like a ravenous cheetah after its first taste of blood. Hungry like the soulless vampire as the sun begins to set above the first full moon. Hungry as… well, you get my point. Year to date, Jackson has had more rushing attempts and more yards gained than both Mike Bell and Reggie Bush combined.

Attempt 2: The defense for the Saints is not much better than the Rams. The Rams have allowed only 6 more plays and about 300 more yards. Considering the extra psychological weight the Rams defense carries supporting a so far unproductive offense, I’d say that is amazing. Add to the fact that the Rams are coming off a restful bye week, I’d says the Rams defense could have an advantage.

Attempt 3: After further review, ok ok, outside of the 2 stats listed above, the Saints defense is better than the Rams defense. Throughout 2009 the Saints have accumulated 19 sacks to the Rams 14, recovered 9 fumbles to the Rams 3, and induced 16 interceptions to the Rams 6. In spite of this, the stats in Attempt 2 are still true and all the more impressive.

Well, I’m done. Statistically, the Saints are a much better team than the Rams. The Saints have the #1 ranked offense in the NFL. However, Drew Brees is known to throw an interception from time to time. In fact, he has thrown as many interceptions this year as Bulger and Boller combined (7).

If we can get some pressure on Brees (or get some vinegar on his Cheerios… anything), get Brees making some mistakes, and we can get S Jackson going… you just never know. Like the saying goes… “on any given Sunday…”

The Saints have so many offensive weapons. The Giants,Jets,Dolphins, and Panthers are all good teams that fell to this offense. The Saints defense so improved.. watch for scores on turnovers. I think this team is made up of great pros who are confident and hungry and they will be ready to go. They will overlook no team including the Rams.

Sit back and enjoy watching what may be the best offensive show you will ever see in your lifetime. That show will be complimented by a total team effort on defense and special teams. New Orleans is that team of destiny you’ve waited to see! GO SAINTS!
