The Patriots released WR Joey Galloway and the Rams are in need of help at WR. The Rams should at least kick the tires on Galloway to see if he would be interested in coming to St. Louis.
Galloway would be better than all of the Rams receivers minus a healthy Donnie Avery. If he came to St. Louis, he would push Keenan Burton to the slot and Danny Amendola to the 4th receiver position, which is probably for the better for Burton and Amendola. It would certainly be better for the Rams offense.
Galloway has been known throughout his career as a speed receiver and deep threat. Having Galloway on the Rams would help the Rams offensive coordinator stretch the defense so that Steven Jackson will have more room to run. The Rams offense during week 6 became overly conservative when Donnie Avery went down injured, and having Galloway would keep a deep threat on the field at all times. The Rams are also very thin at wide receiver and getting any player with pass-catching skills is important to the Rams.
However, Galloway was injured last season and is over 36 years old. He is past the prime of his career. He also seems to have the same skill set as Donnie Avery as a speed receiver.
The Rams need bodies at receiver and at his age, Joey Galloway represents an improvement for the Rams at receiver this season. But, with the Rams focus on youth and Joey Galloway’s skill set, it does not look probable.
