Much Ado About Fells

After 2 touchdowns in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers, Daniel Fells has been getting a lot of attention amongst Rams fans.  Add to that the fact that starting TE Randy McMichael had two uncharacteristic drops against Green Bay and Daniel Fells has raised his profile immensely.  Coach Spagnuolo is even singing his praises.

“There is a lot to like,” Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said. “Danny is one of those quote-unquote athletic tight ends. … Guys that can run, guys that are big, and guys that factor in the pass game. I think Danny does all of that.”

Look for Fells’ chances to increase, especially with the Rams focusing on the future and young players with upside.  Fells fits both of those characteristics.  He offers matchup problems for linebackers with his speed and problems for corners with his size.  In both of his touchdowns against Green Bay, he was able to get behind a slower linebacker.

Fells should continue to get looks, especially with Kyle Boller at quarterback because Boller worked extensively with Fells with the second team during training camp.
