Rams Win Governors Cup 17-9

The St. Louis Rams won the most unimportant trophy in sports with a 17-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in the 4th preaseason game to claim the Govenor’s Cup.  The very important Rams starters did not play at all and the rest of the first team played about a quarter.

This game was won by the Rams 2nd and 3rd stringers.  Here are the players who were a particular hilight.

Quincy Butler – Butler proves he isn’t just a “camp star” by grabbing his second interception of the preseason and returning it for a touchdown.  He has played extremely well both in camp and the preseason to cement a roster spot for himself.  The trade of Tye Hill made it much easier for him to earn a spot, but Quincy has played well none the less.

Justin King – Staying in the defensive backfield, Justin King had an acrobatic interception on a poorly thrown ball by Tyler Thigpen.  That sort of leaping ability is good to see from a player coming off foot surgery that ended his season in 2008.

Brock Berlin – Now, I am firmly aboard the Keith Null bandwagon, but Berlin had one great drive where he was throwing darts all over the field including a 6-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Fells.  Will it be enough for Brock to fight off a competitor for the 3rd QB job for the 2nd season in a row?

Ronald Curry – Curry hasn’t had much chance to shine in the 2009 preseason after being traded for on the eve of training camp, but he showed hands and quickness against the Chiefs.  However, he did get a dumb penalty in the first half.  The numbers game may hurt him, but he showed his veteran savvy.

Anyone else stick out for you?
