Rams and Chiefs Meet in Preseason Finale for the Annual Governor’s Cup

Behind four takeaways from the defense and strong performances by QB Kyle Boller and RB Samkon Gado, the Rams recorded a 24-21 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last week at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. The Rams converted three of the four turnovers into points as Gado scored two touchdowns, one rushing and another on a Boller pass.

The Rams aim to continue the momentum established vs. the Bengals when they return home to take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday. With a victory vs. the Chiefs, the Rams would secure their first winning record in the preseason since 2005 when the team registered a 3-1 mark.

This week’s game is the annual Governor’s Cup meeting, pitting Missouri?s two professional football franchises against each other. The teams resumed the Governor’s Cup series in the preseason of 1996, continuing the tradition of the game that began with the football Cardinals and the Chiefs. Both preseason and regular season games count in the series results, as the Chiefs lead the overall series with St. Louis teams, 25-13-2. Since resuming the series in 1996, the Chiefs lead the series vs. the St. Louis Rams 9-6. The Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams lead the all-time preseason series vs. the Chiefs 11-8.
